A Soprano Pipistrelle resting on a black gloved hand with a black background

Soprano Pipistrelle Pipistrellus pygmaeus

Very similar to the Common pipistrelle but distinguished by its higher echolocation frequency of around 55 kHz and slightly paler, more orange-toned colouration. Small; pale reddish-orange to sandy-brown fur; dark wing membranes; a pale band often visible along the trailing edge of the wing membrane. More strongly associated with riparian habitats and woodland edges than the Common pipistrelle. Image: © Yuzefovich Alexander, iNaturalist.
