Rosser’s Sac-spider Clubiona rosserae
Rosser’s Sac-spider (Clubiona rosserae) is one of Britain’s rarest spiders, known from only a very small number of sites nationally. A member of the sac spider family (Clubionidae), it is associated with tall, tussocky fen vegetation and reedbed margins – habitats where it constructs its characteristic silken retreat amongst plant stems. Suffolk’s extensive fen and reedbed systems, particularly in the Waveney Valley and the coastal wetlands, place the county in a potentially significant position for this elusive species. It is named in honour of the British arachnologist Meriel Rosser, and its rarity and habitat specificity make any verified Suffolk record of considerable importance.
