Slender Hare’s-Ear Bupleurum tenuissimum
Slender Hare’s-Ear (Bupleurum tenuissimum) is a nationally scarce umbellifer of the upper saltmarsh, sea wall grassland, and brackish coastal turf – one of the few members of the carrot family adapted to saline conditions. It is a diminutive, easily overlooked plant, its tiny yellow flowers barely distinguishable in the field without close examination. In Britain, it is restricted to the coastal counties of south-east England. Suffolk holds important populations along its estuarine coastline, particularly around the Orwell, Stour, and Alde–Ore systems, where lightly grazed or mown sea-wall banks and upper-marsh grassland provide suitable conditions.
