Fine-leaved Sandwort Minuartia hybrida
Fine-leaved Sandwort (Minuartia hybrida) is a delicate, thread-stemmed annual of open, calcareous and sandy soils, most often found on disturbed ground, arable margins, and bare chalk. It has declined markedly across Britain and is now largely confined to south-east England. Suffolk's Breckland – with its light, open soils and long history of low-intensity land use – is one of the key remaining areas for this species nationally. It is an inconspicuous plant, easily overlooked, and its true distribution in the county may be imperfectly known. Continued open ground management and sympathetic arable practices are important for its persistence. Image: © Eleftherios Katsillis, iNaturalist.
