Wall Lasiommata megera

The Wall (Lasiommata megera) – often known as the Wall Brown – was once a familiar sight across Suffolk's countryside, but has undergone a striking and poorly understood decline inland over recent decades. It is now largely confined to the county's coast, where sheltered, sunny banks and cliff grasslands provide the warm, open conditions it requires. Adults bask conspicuously on bare ground and stone, giving the species its name. Suffolk's coastal sites – including clifftops and brownfield areas – represent some of the most important remaining habitat for this species in eastern England. Image: © Chris Upson, Flickr.
