House Martin Survey – House Martin Support Suffolk

The House Martin is a familiar summer visitor to Suffolk, building its neat mud-cup nests under the eaves of houses and barns. Numbers have fallen sharply across southern and eastern Britain in recent decades, and the species was added to the UK Red List in 2021 – meaning it is now considered at risk as a breeding bird. This survey, run jointly by the Suffolk Bird Group’s House Martin Support Suffolk initiative and SBIS, aims to build a county-wide picture of where House Martins are still nesting and in what numbers. Every nest site you record contributes directly to our understanding of how this species is faring in Suffolk.
